The Roma in Russia have experienced cases of ethnocide based on evidence from research articles and informational websites on the history of the Roma. In 1920, the Russian government classified the Roma as a minority of Indian origin, and began efforts to assimilate Roma populations (Minority Rights Group, 2021). In 1956, the Supreme Council of Russia banned “nomadism” (Anti-Discrimination Centre Memorial Brussels, n.d.), and this forced the largely nomadic Roma population to settle in land allotted by the government and leave behind their nomadic lifestyle.
The data quality is ranked a 2 out of 3 because there is a good quantity of reliable evidence available about the case; however, this mostly all came from one source.
