The Hutus in Rwanda have been victims of forced labor. For over a century, the Tutsi minority group subjected Hutus to brutality, enslavement, and dehumanization (Kintu 2005). The Hutus were forced to do degrading and humiliating labor in Tutsi property without any pay (Kintu 2005). Oftentimes, they were physically punished for failure to perform their duties and in severe cases, killed (Kintu 2005). This forced labor resulted in the impoverishment of many Hutus who fled to Uganda or Congo seeking paid employment (Kintu 2005).
The data quality for this report is a 2, because there is not enough information regarding the post conflict occurrences of forced labor.
