The Shuar are one of the biggest indigenous groups in Ecuador. In recent years, Ecuador’s government has given mining companies control of Shuar ancestral land, which the Shuar see as important for their culture and livelihood.  In 2016, police forcibly moved Shuar people and protestors in order to protect and move in mining groups (Villa, 2017; Unrepresented Nations and Peoples Organization, 2017). Related conflicts over land rights have led to Shuar deaths and kidnappings (Villa, 2017).  The data quality for this group is a 2 because there is a lot of information on the group, however specific details about the loss of livelihood and culture are currently not available.
