The Nubian people are an ethnic minority native to northern Sudan and southern Egypt. They speak Nubian languages and Arabic. There are an estimated 3 to 4 million Nubians in Egypt. The Nubian people are descendants of an ancient civilization near Egypt. They are residents of the upper Nile region; their native province considers them a minority. The Egyptian government and people have marginalized the Nubian people and shown extreme prejudice towards them (Minority Rights Group, 2017). There has been a process of “De-Nubinization” in the areas populated by Nubian people. The Egyptian people have aimed to resettle Arabs in Nubian provinces. They have renamed Nubian localities with Arab names. They have forced out the Nubian language and culture, and pushed Arab-based curriculums at the expense of the Nubian’s own language. The Egyptian government has purposefully kept Nubian representatives out as well. The Egyptian people have not put in the effort to protect the Nubian people from discrimination. The Nubians have also been attempting to return to their ancestral lands. However, the Egyptian government has quashed their demands and attempts at mobilization time and time again. (Janmyr, 2016). Currently, the Nubian people are fighting back against the Egyptian government and demanding reparations. They are still in the works to receive their land back and find their culture once more. (Minority Rights Group, 2017).

Data Quality: The data quality for the Nubian ethnocide is rated a 2 because of the amount of evidence and the lack of peer-reviewed academic journals articles.
