In 1830, the Nguni first started to occupy the Ndau land and continued until 1889. The Nguni occupation involved regular violence, resulting in numerous deaths along with forceable removal of Ndau from their land (MacGonagle, 2008). In 1889, 60,000 to 100,000 Ndau were subjected to a forced migration that lasted about one month (recalled as  “death march”).  Nguni guards punished deserters by killing them.  Others died from lack of food and water (MacGonagle 2007).  Overall, there is not much information on this group, but there were a few reputable sources on lethal violence against the Ndau (data quality score  = 2).
